St. Joseph of Cupertino

After a ten-month hiatus from flight training I’ve jumped back in with both feet. And it’s as fun and challenging as I remembered. In two lessons and 2.2 hours of flight time I feel that a lot of the rust has been knocked off. We’ve already performed the following maneuvers:

1. Turns around a point
2. Slow flight
3. Steep turns
4. Crosswind landings
5. Forward-slip landings
6. S-Turns

So far things have gone well–although definitely not perfect. I’ve still got many, many things to learn or re-learn. I have what seems to be a good, patient CFI and can’t wait until the next time I go up.

Current flight time: 19.8 hours. Wow. I didn’t realize that.

FYI, the title refers to St. Joseph of Cupertino who is apparently the patron saint of aviators. Oh, and the hilarious part is that he’s also a patron saint of the mentally handicapped and bad students. Maybe there’s some truth to wanting to fly and having a mental handicap. After reading that article I believe Catholicism and Greek/Roman gods have more in common than I thought.
